How The Filter Works
Electrical Charge
Through a positive electrical charge the contaminant is attracted to the filter media like a magnet.

Many of the products that use these filters (and there are plenty) have to use a second filter (carbon) in the product at an extra cost to the customer and even with this additional filter the product still only removes the usual bacteria, parasites, microplastics and dirt. In short, these are average filters even though some of them are in market leading products. These products do not remove waterborne viruses which is incredibly important when drinking from outdoor water sources.

The filter has a positive electrical charge (as well as micro pores) which is created once water flows through the filter, which attracts the negative charge present on submicron contaminants. Due to the structure of the media, this charge causes the fibres to further overlap into the fibre pore structure. In simple terms the filter becomes like a magnet to the contaminant and the contaminant is pulled into the filter.
The filter is an electro-positive, wet-laid nonwoven media. What makes this media unlike any other on the market is that even though it captures very small diameter substances and pathogens, it also removes larger particles mechanically. With the addition of powder activated carbon our filters not only remove the highest levels of bacteria and parasites, but can remove waterborne viruses, endotoxins, trace pharmaceuticals, chemicals such as PFOA’s, heavy metals, microplastics and much more.
Waterborne viruses can be exceptionally serious to human health, and despite this, hardly any filters or filter bottles on the market today remove them, which is worryingly hard to believe. The products themselves are very well marketed, and use words like “waterborne pathogens” to give the “impression” of virus removal but the reality is, they cannot remove viruses from water. We strongly recommend you read the small print on all filters and filter bottles to see exactly what percentage of viruses are removed if any at all. Remember, if there is no mention of viruses it is usually because the filter cannot remove them irrespective of how well marketed the product is.
